Private by architecture, not by promise.

Our servers never see the content of your entries. We built it so we can't.

What our servers see

  • An anonymous user ID
  • Entry timestamps
  • Entry durations

How privacy works →

Talk for two minutes.

Voice lowers the barrier when you're tired or in a heavy moment. Apple's on-device speech runs as you talk — the transcript is yours immediately.

Will Simpson, founder of Candovo

Hi, I'm Will. I built Candovo because I kept losing track of my own experiences. By the time I'd sit down to actually think about something, the things I wanted to remember had been pushed aside or replaced by a new situation. The difficult conversation with family, rough feedback from a colleague at work, the slow drain of motivation in the middle of an ordinary Tuesday — most of it faded once something new happened.

It was most obvious in therapy. Sessions every two weeks, and by the time I sat down I could only really remember or talk about the last day or two. I was making slower progress than I wanted because I kept focusing on the recent things and not what left the lasting impacts. So I built the journal I wished I had, and realized I couldn't be the only one. If any of this is familiar, I hope you join the waitlist and try it out for yourself.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a regular journaling app?
Two things. First, it's voice-first — you talk instead of type, which lowers the barrier when you're tired or in a heavy moment. Second, the privacy architecture is real: nothing you record gets uploaded to a server. Most journaling apps route everything through their own systems and ask you to trust them. Candovo doesn't have to.
What if I get emotional or cry during a recording?
That's the whole reason voice works for this. Tears, pauses, the catch in your voice — typing doesn't capture any of it. The recording lives on your phone. The transcript is just the words. Nothing about the audio or how you sounded gets uploaded or shared.
Can I share an entry with someone — a partner, friend, or therapist?
Only if you choose to. You can export a single entry or a trend report across many entries as a PDF, then share it however you want — email, AirDrop, hand them your phone. Nothing leaves your device unless you do it yourself.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Entries are stored locally. If your phone backs up to iCloud, your entries are part of that backup and restore to a new phone with the rest of your data. We don't have a copy on a server.
What if I record something I want to delete later?
Tap the entry, tap delete. Gone — audio, transcript, and the anonymous metadata on our server. No 'undelete,' no soft delete, no hidden copy.
What does Candovo's server actually store?
Anonymous metadata only: a user ID, entry timestamps, durations, mood scores you record, and theme tags. No audio. No transcripts. No reflection text. Enough to sync trends across devices without us being able to read your journal.
How does the AI part work?
AI insights are optional. If you turn them on, the app talks directly from your phone to Google's Gemini API using a free key you create yourself — we don't proxy the request, we don't see it, and we don't pay for it. That last bit is also why we can keep the subscription affordable. Read the full explainer.
Is this HIPAA compliant?
No, and that's intentional. Candovo is a personal tool, not a clinical service or covered entity, so HIPAA doesn't apply. Our model is arguably stronger than HIPAA for your privacy: HIPAA regulates what providers can do with your data, but we never have your transcripts in the first place.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Candovo launches on iOS first because Apple's on-device speech recognition is what makes the privacy model possible. Android is on the roadmap but not committed to a date.
